Because of Avon I will be in a National Commercial

Wow!  I cannot even begin to tell you the emotions that went through my body when I got a call from Avon they would be airing a commercial for a month which included me in addition to advertising on ABC digital platforms. Talk about Avon buzz! Wow, Linda Montavon in a National Commercial.  I couldn't even form words to respond I was so happy.  My husband was home when I got the phone call and just the look on his face was priceless.  I knew he was happy for me and that an Avon dream had come true.  

Years earlier I had tried out for an Avon commercial.  I flew to New York and I was so concerned about what they might ask me, what my response would be, would I use the wrong tense of a word, or what other embarrassing thing I might do I didn't get any sleep.  Of course I am sure I looked drained and exhausted and so darn serious.  I plowed into the Vice President of Avon's Direct Selling Communication not once but twice before exiting!  Obviously I didn't get chosen.  Getting picked this time has been my second chance.  I always felt like I missed my chance. I really had messed up!  What I learned is just to be myself, be me, be the "best me" I can be and that is always enough.  I had to stop playing the "what if" I would have done this differently story in my head.  Lucky for me I did get another chance.

I love this commercial because it is all Avon Representatives so it is real, authentic and represents the true Sisterhood you have with Avon.

Avon Shocking Video:  Marketing Success or Fail?

Did Avon produce a marketing success or fail with this shocking Avon video?

For me, it was wow I haven't seen this from Avon before.  My jaw may have even hit the floor.  I must admit I was shocked, really shocked actually and instantly started seeing the buzz all over social media.  It seems those writing about it loved it or hated it and very few were left unsure about how they felt. 

As a norm, I avoid controversy at all cost but I will say just like not everyone loves chocolate ice cream, not everyone will love what Avon did here. It doesn't mean it should be banned. How many watch Hell's Kitchen and the F word is bleeped out every other second yet it is an extremely popular show. I watch the show because I love watching Chefs chase their dreams and grow and become better.  I love watching one lucky chef have their dream come true on TV in front of our eyes. Watching someone's dream come true if pretty great.    

When you have a product line such as Avon does, there is something for almost everyone. We have items for children, men, women, elderly and because of that, various marketing venues are needed to reach the diverse markets. When a video has only been up two days and has reached an audience of OVER 28,000 with 70 likes and only 5 dislikes, whoever was in charge of this Avon shocking video marketing strategy is reaching a market that is happy. I have heard so many saying Avon needs to get updated and whether I personally like the F word or not, I am happy that Avon is attempting something to bring modern day Avon into play and reach more people.

Avon produces many videos that are powerful without any bleeps. Our company is diverse which to me makes it EXTRA special because they want this company to be for all and for that I am very proud of Avon!
It is clear not everyone will like this Avon shocking video for Father's Day but then again not everyone liked the Mother's Day video even though there were no bleeps. So Avon published a Mother's Day video with a good message, no bleeps, and it still had dislikes.
There is also the argument why put out anything that is offensive to anyone.  Well, truthfully if we think about it, almost anything we do can offend someone.  If you are a Christian and write about Christianity and produce a video, an atheist could be offended by the content and vice versa.  You can look at a video and feel that your age bracket is not represented properly and be offended. You can write an article about meat and a Vegetarian may be offended.  There could be someone tattooed in the video and you may dislike tattoos and be offended.  Honestly I think it would be next near impossible to create a video that pleases every single person on the planet.  And that is why smart companies create a diverse portfolio somewhat like the way we are suppose to manage our investments and "not put all our eggs in one basket". 

Whether you like this Avon marketing technique or not, for some it is spot on.  With its overwhelming popularity it is obvious there is a market who is happy with it.

And by sharing this video will others judge?  Personally I never use the F word but yes I know many who do.  Just like I don't have a tattoo but know many who do.  For me I just made the bleeped out word "Forget That" and still enjoyed the message that dad is encouraging his daughter to achieve her greatness. But of course many say I live in a dream world and there would have been no need to bleep that F word if it really was "Forget". But I will continue to fill the bleep with "Forget" because if it was my dad, that would be the phrase he would have used.  But many others tell me their dad would have used another F word. So in my mind the bleep is all about what we make it.

Avon's current campaign Beauty For A Purpose was recently launched and I hope the essence of what Avon is trying to accomplish is what is remembered.  "Beauty For A Purpose" is an Avon Global campaign and dedicated to empowering women. From their website, "

Avon has been around since 1886, gives back to the community, cares about the earth, and cares about helping end Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence.  Avon offers representatives the "GIFT" to start their own business for only $15 and change lives. Avon even gave women the right to earn money before we had the right to vote.  To me that is just crazy good and makes me very proud to be an Avon Representative!


One thing for sure you can't please everyone but then again isn't that what makes this world wonderful is that we are all unique and have different likes, interests and talents?  You definitely have a way of constantly changing things up Avon and in this case shocking many.  So I guess my only question is what's next?  And Avon maybe give me advance notice to put something soft on the floor in case it is another "drop the jaw to the floor" move with another Avon shocking video. One thing for sure hit or miss there is a buzz!
